New oxynitrides resulting from thermal ammonolysis of metallophosphates have been tested as platinum-supported catalysts in the destruction of volatile organic compounds (VOC's). The total combustion of ethylbenzene over Pt/AlGaPON is observed at a lower temperature (200 degrees C) than over Pt/alumina catalyst.
